Employment for Seamstresses

One of our goals from the beginning at Make Welcome has been the economic empowerment of our students through employment as seamstresses. Our work in this area is two-fold. We have fostered employment of our students through both Stay-at-Home Manufacturing and Make Welcome Made, our cut and sew business at our Project 658 workshop.

Make Welcome Made:
Charlotte NC Cut & Sew

Have something you need sewn? Have a project in mind? We have three industrial sewing machines and the ability to work on small batch sewing manufacturing projects.

Want to partner with us and give work to our students? Send us as much information as possible and we will get back to you with next steps!

Stay-at-Home Manufacturing

We partner with small businesses desiring to grow but in need of sewing help to do so. We were able to connect some of our students with these businesses and shepherd the initial stages of their working relationships with design, communication, and financial management assistance.

We are excited to see the outcome of these partnerships thus far:

  • Business growth
  • Significant economic gain for seamstress employees
  • Caring bonds between employer and seamstress employee
  • Advocacy for refugee and immigrant concerns by businesses who have become more aware of the issues faced by these women and their families

We encourage you to support the following businesses who currently employee Make Welcome students and former students:

Persona Grata: Embrace the World

Holley & Sage

Twenty Two West

Amahoro Burundi

Pacha Global Designs

Knotties Headbands
