ABOUT MAKE WELCOME REFUGEE SEWING SCHOOL

MISSION

Refugee women have lost so much in the escape from violence, persecution, war. Make Welcome comes alongside these brave women to show the love of Christ through giving welcome, friendship and support as they establish a new home and a new life in North Carolina.

VISION

Ecclesiastes 4:1 “Again I saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no one to comfort them!”
Time and time again, resettled refugees have had the same request – American friends that will walk with them through the struggles and challenges of making a new life there. At the very heart of Make Welcome is that we will be a place where women find that longed for friendship and help and community.

VALUES

  • We follow the example of Jesus as we serve those who are suffering from poverty and injustice, regardless of color, belief, or gender, as part of God’s plan to redeem, reconcile, and restore the world.
  • We recognize that Project 658 as a multicultural organization and we seek to understand and respect the multiplicity of cultures among us. As we seek change in the world, we recognize that we too are changed by those we serve and we want to learn from them!
  • We view the local church as an important partner in bringing peace, justice, and love to this world. We believe God calls us to integrate word and deed in the quest to help bring reconciliation and restoration in people’s relationship to God, others, and the environment.
  • We work for empowerment by prioritizing the leadership and participation of those we serve as critical to creating and sustaining change.
  • We love partnership and collaboration with other Charlotte-area non-profits and the business community, recognizing these collaborative ventures as essential to serving the most vulnerable.
  • We start our classes with a focus on God’s Word and Prayer as the priority and foundation to accomplishing our mission.
