They’re Not Alone: December Fundraising

As we near the end of 2022, we’re so thankful for all the ways Make Welcome Sewing has grown. We have more students than ever before. We’re redesigning curriculum to make it more usable for non-English speakers. We’ve strengthening our vocational sewing program. We’re working with more and more small businesses to provide employment to refugee women.

And yet. There’s more to be done. When a program grows, funding doesn’t always keep up! Will you join us in providing welcoming community and trauma-informed vocational classes for refugee women? Gifts of ANY amount are a blessing, but for the month of December, we have a special giving challenge:

It takes approximately $350 per student to offer free sewing classes, $500 if you count the free sewing machine and/or sewing supplies kits that our students receive upon graduation. Would you consider giving $100 or more before the end of 2022? Those who give $100 or more will receive a lovely print from Charlotte artist Kelly Wallace as a thank you gift, and as a reminder that we are all in this together – these women are not alone here in Charlotte. There is a community that is working together to help them succeed and find home.

Gifts of $50 to $100 will receive a tea towel sewn by one of our production class students. Shayla, Zhula, Saja and Zahar are all receiving paychecks as they sew these lovely, North Carolina printed tea towels.
