Almost every one of our classes has some "frustrating" students in it. These are usually (but not always) the students that know sewing, but don't speak English. They run ahead on the projects without waiting for the teacher OR looking at the instructions. Inevitably, these students create problems for themselves and have to redo the project. Refugee women have lost so much in the escape from violence, persecution, & war.
Make Welcome Sewing School comes alongside these brave women to show the love of Christ through giving welcome, friendship and support as they establish a new home and a new life in North Carolina. We accomplish this through:

  • Providing welcoming community through sewing classes, cultural exchanges and friendship building 
  • Enabling to thrive in the United States through vocational training, job skills building and English tutoring 
  • Giving hope for the future through mental health support and practical care in navigating American culture
